Public Advisory: Additional Dates Set to Discuss Forest Management Plans for Bay d'Espoir Region

The Department of Fisheries and Land Resources is holding additional public consultation sessions for the preparation of a new five-year forestry operating plan for the Bay d’Espoir region. The sessions will focus on forest activity in Forest Management Zone 4 which is located within Forest Management District 7 and encompasses approximately 1.2 million hectares of forest.

Three sessions are taking place at the Forestry and Wildlife office in Milltown on Wednesday, June 28, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Under the Forestry Act, the department is legislated to meet with public stakeholders while developing five-year operating plans for forest management districts and zones in Newfoundland and Labrador. The intent of these sessions is to obtain feedback on proposed forestry activity.

The meetings provide the opportunity for participants to give input on the potential impact of proposed forestry activities on the social, economic and recreational conditions associated with the forest resource. The process is consistent with the Provincial Government's sustainable forest management strategy and the principle of sustainable development.

Public consultation information can be found at www.faa.gov.nl.ca/forestry/managing/public_consultation.html.
