Salmon Convictions Result in Significant Fines, Penalties for Leading Tickles Men
Investigations conducted by officers with Fish and Wildlife Enforcement with the Department of Fisheries and Land Resources have resulted in recent convictions in Grand Falls-Windsor Provincial Court.
On June 2, 2017, Jeffrey Haggett, Joseph Haggett, Dennis Marsh, and Brandon Rowsell, all from Leading Tickles, were convicted of illegally netting Atlantic salmon caught in contravention of the Fisheries Act. Each has been fined $3,000 for netting in coastal waters. They have also been prohibited from being on or near inland waters or obtaining recreational fishing licences for a period of three years. A total of six herring and four illegal nets were forfeited to the Crown.
The convictions stem from two separate investigations. On June 14, 2016, Fish and Wildlife Enforcement officers apprehended Joseph Haggett, Marsh and Rowsell after observing the three illegally setting a net near Leading Tickles.
On June 17, 2016, Fish and Wildlife Enforcement officers apprehended Jeffrey Haggett after observing him illegally setting a net in the same area.

Members of the public who discover an illegal net are encouraged to leave it where it is and report it for investigation.
