Dates Set to Discuss Five-year Forest Management Operating Plans

The Department of Fisheries and Land Resources will hold public consultation sessions for the preparation of two new five-year operating plans located in Zone 4 (District 7) and Zone 8 (District 17 and 18). The intent of these sessions is to obtain feedback on proposed forestry activity.

Under the Forestry Act, the department is legislated to meet with public stakeholders while developing five-year operating plans for forest management districts and zones in Newfoundland and Labrador.

The meetings provide the opportunity for participants to give input on the potential environmental effects of proposed forestry activities on the social, economic and recreational conditions associated with the forest resource. The process is consistent with the Provincial Government's sustainable forest management strategy and the principle of sustainable development. A list of dates and locations are provided in the backgrounder below.

Meetings to discuss the preparation of new five-year operating plans for Districts 19 and 23 in Labrador are being planned. Details will be posted on the Provincial Government website at a later date.
