Public Advisory: Fish and Wildlife Enforcement Officers in Labrador Seek Public Assistance

The Department of Fisheries and Land Resources, Fish and Wildlife Enforcement, is seeking the public’s assistance regarding information relating to an incident where a black bear was allegedly illegally killed on or near December 3, 2016, between the areas of Orma Lake and Sail Lake (approximately 100-150 kilometres north of Churchill Falls).

The investigation has determined the bear was forced out of its den and shot. Subsequent information received is alleging that the bear was shot while escaping the den after the den was set on fire.

An investigation into this incident is underway and officers are asking anyone who has any information or who may have seen suspicious behaviour in that area on or around December 3, 2016, to please come forward.

Those with information can contact the Fish and Wildlife Enforcement Wabush Detachment located at the Hackett building in the Wabush Industrial Park at 709-944-4898. Information can also be provided anonymously, toll-free to Fish and Wildlife Enforcement at 1-877-820-0999 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.
