Additional Land Available for Agricultural Development

The Department of Fisheries and Land Resources is accepting proposals for the occupation and utilization of land for agriculture development in several areas.

Proposals are being solicited from existing commercial farmers, part-time commercial farmers or new farmers who are in need of additional land to operate and develop the property for agricultural purposes. Unless otherwise indicated the form of tenure will be a five-year Licence to Occupy or a 50-year Crown Land Agriculture Lease.

Interested individuals can download an information package at: www.faa.gov.nl.ca/agrifoods/land/obtaining_land/requests_for_proposals.html. Packages can also be delivered by mail upon request. Information packages contain background information and necessary application forms to outline the farm development proposal.

As additional land is identified and made available, notices will be posted at the link above.

Making more land available helps new and current farmers and producers find new ways to expand and improve their businesses and addresses government’s plan to ensure food security for residents.

Quote
“Our government recognizes the unique nature of the agriculture industry and is committed to further expanding this sector as we outlined in The Way Forward. We are working with stakeholders to increase agriculture production which in turn will advance food security measures and help farmers and producers reduce costs and dependency on imported dairy forage and grain.”
Honourable Steve Crocker
Minister of Fisheries and Land Resources
