Media Advisory: Minister Parsons to Host Meeting of the Minister’s Committee on Violence Against Women and Girls

The Honourable Andrew Parsons, Minister of Justice and Public Safety and Attorney General, the Honourable Siobhan Coady, Minister Responsible for the Status of Women, and the Honourable Lisa Dempster, Minister of Children, Seniors and Social Development, will offer opening remarks at a meeting of the Minister’s Committee on Violence Against Women and Girls tomorrow (Friday, December 8) at 9:00 a.m. They will be joined by Linda Ross, co-chair of the Minister’s Committee on Violence Against Women and Girls and President of the Provincial Advisory Council on the Status of Women.

The event will take place at Easter Seals House, 206 Mount Scio Road, St. John’s. The meeting itself is open to invited participants only.

The Minister’s Committee on Violence Against Women and Girls represents a group of government and community representatives who have experience and knowledge of issues surrounding violence against women and girls. The goal of the day is to share information, identify key changes in the justice system and come up with action plans to work together to end gender-based violence in Newfoundland and Labrador. The meeting will be attended by representatives from women’s organizations, women with lived experience, Indigenous governments and organizations, RNC, RCMP, members of the legal community, community organizations and officials from relevant government departments.
