Media Advisory: Premier Ball to Lead Agriculture Sector Summit

The Honourable Dwight Ball, Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador, will lead an agriculture industry summit in Grand Falls-Windsor on Monday, October 23.

A technical briefing will be held for media at 8:15 a.m. in the warm room of the Joe Byrne Arena.

The Premier and ministers of the Cabinet Committee on Jobs will then engage in a private tour of exhibits at the Newfoundland and Labrador Federation of Agriculture Agrifoods and Garden Show at the Joe Byrne Arena at 9:00 a.m. They will be joined at approximately 9:30 a.m. by Grade Four and Grade Five students from Sprucewood Academy who are participating in the “Amazing Agriculture Adventure,” an Agriculture in the Classroom program.

The tour of the show will conclude at approximately 10:00 a.m., and will be followed by a private tour of the new Centre for Agriculture and Forestry Development (formerly the Wooddale Provincial Tree Nursery) in Wooddale at 10:30 a.m.

At 11:30, the Agriculture Summit will commence at the Centre for Agriculture and Forestry Development. Premier Ball and the Ministers of the Cabinet Committee on Jobs will be joined by Mervin Wiseman, President of the Newfoundland and Labrador Federation of Agriculture; federation members; and invited leaders from the business, academic, and community sectors.

As part of The Way Forward vision, the Provincial Government is directly engaging the aquaculture, agriculture, and technology sectors to address industry needs in ways that result in new employment and economic activity throughout the province.
