Provincial Government Investing Approximately $4.4 Million for Municipal Infrastructure in Terra Nova Region

The Provincial Government today announced an investment of over $4.4 million for municipal infrastructure projects in the Terra Nova region.

The Honourable Eddie Joyce, Minister of Municipal Affairs and Environment, was joined by Judy Foote, MP for Bonavista - Burin - Trinity, on behalf of the Honourable Amarjeet Sohi, Minister of Infrastructure and Communities, and Colin Holloway, Parliamentary Secretary for Municipal Affairs and Environment and MHA for Terra Nova.

Under the provincial 2017-2020 Multi-Year Capital Works program, the Provincial Government has allocated approximately $3.6 million for projects in the Town of Clarenville. The funding will be used for upgrades to water and sewer for Cormack Drive and Prince Street, installation of a new storm sewer at Taverner Place, and construction of a salt storage facility.

The Provincial Government has allocated approximately $298,000 to Happy Adventure under the new provincial Municipal Capital Works program. Funding will be used to upgrade the water and wastewater system, the drinking water distribution system and the sanitary sewage collection system.

Funding was also announced through the Small Communities Fund of the New Building Canada Fund for the following communities:

  • Hickman's Harbour-Robinson Bight is receiving a provincial contribution of $186,000 and a federal contribution of up to $109,000 for improvements to the community’s water distribution system;
  • Port Blandford is receiving a provincial contribution of $254,000 and up to $149,000 in federal funding to be used to improve the water pumping system; and
  • The Town of Glovertown is receiving a Provincial Government contribution of $141,000 and a federal share of $141,000 for paving and upgrading of municipal roads.

The Provincial Government’s recently announced that $38.8 million is being allocated for projects under the federal Small Communities Fund and the provincial Municipal Capital Works program to support significant improvements in municipal infrastructure, and bring benefits to residents and businesses.
