Premier Ball Appoints Todd Stanley, Q.C. as Deputy Minister (Acting) of the Department of Justice and Public Safety

Today, the Honourable Dwight Ball, Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador, along with the Honourable Andrew Parsons, Minister of Justice and Public Safety and Attorney General, announced that Todd Stanley, Q.C. has been appointed to the role of Deputy Minister with the Department of Justice and Public Safety on an acting basis.

Over the past 16 years Mr. Stanley has worked in various capacities with the Department of Justice and Public Safety, including as a former Assistant Deputy Minister of Courts and Legal Services. He was most recently Special Counsel to the Human Resources Secretariat of Executive Council.

This appointment is effective immediately. Mr. Stanley’s biography is included in the backgrounder below.

BACKGROUNDER

Biography of Todd Stanley, Q.C.
Todd Stanley, Q.C. joined the Department of Justice and Public Safety in 2001, after spending five years as a lawyer with the law firm of Cox & Palmer. He has served as solicitor, Manager of the Corporate and Commercial Unit, Director of the Civil Division, Assistant Deputy Minister of Courts and Legal Services, and most recently as Special Counsel to the Human Resources Secretariat. His original practice area was corporate and commercial law, specializing in energy and resources law. Mr. Stanley holds honours degrees in Law from the University of Toronto and Commerce from Memorial University, and has taught both at the Bar Admission Course for the Law Society and at the Faculty of Business at Memorial University. He was appointed Queen’s Counsel in 2016.
