The Honourable Perry Trimper, Minister of Environment and Climate Change, has announced the following events relative to Part 10 Environmental Assessment of the Environmental Protection Act.
UNDERTAKING REGISTERED:
Roaches Line Agriculture Development (Reg. 1876)
Proponent: NL Cattle Company LTD
The proponent has submitted a proposal for a 123 hectare agriculture development consisting of three parcels of Crown land adjacent to Roaches Line and Veterans Memorial Highway on the Avalon Peninsula. Approximately 10 hectares per year will be cleared, enhanced, seeded and turned into pasture land suitable for cattle grazing and hay crop production. The area will also provide for future developments such as animal housing facilities, hay storage facilities and equipment storage. Based on market demand, the projected production will be 100 head of cattle per year. Land development is scheduled to commence in the spring of 2017.
The undertaking was registered on January 31, 2017; the deadline for public comments is March 9, 2017; and the minister’s decision is due by March 17, 2017.
ENVIRONMENTAL PREVIEW REPORT DEFICIENT:
Argentia Access Road Industrial Composting Facility (Reg. 1838)
Proponent: Metro Environmental Services Limited
The minister has determined that the EPR is deficient and requires the submission of a revised EPR or addendum to address matters such as building design information, operational measures, employment information and the details of various plans specific to the proposed site as required by the EPR guidelines. MINISTER’S DECISION EXTENDED:Baie Verte Area, Stog’er Tight Goldmine – West Pit Expansion (Reg. 1860)
Proponent: Anaconda Mining Inc.
The Department of Environment and Climate Change and the proponent have agreed to extend the deadline for the minister’s decision to February 12, 2017.
