Environmental Assessment Bulletin

The Honourable Perry Trimper, Minister of Environment and Climate Change, has announced the following events relative to Part 10 Environmental Assessment of the Environmental Protection Act.

UNDERTAKING REGISTERED:

Mac Mix Seal Cove Quarry (Reg. 1875)
Proponent: Mac Mix Concrete Limited

The proponent has submitted a proposal for a 10 hectare aggregate quarry in an area east of the northern tip White Hill Pond and immediately south of an existing quarry, near the Town of Seal Cove in Conception Bay South (CBS). The area is partially within the municipal boundaries of the Town of CBS and partially within undeveloped Crown Land. A total of 8.5 hectares of the site will be developed and 1.5 hectares will be preserved. Access to the site will be via an existing 1.7 kilometre haul road. The construction phase will include site access, site clearing and quarry development; operational phase will include quarrying and crushing; and reclamation and closure will include the conditions of the quarry permit issued by the Department of Natural Resources. The project is scheduled to commence by May 2017.

The undertaking was registered on January 23, 2017; the deadline for public comments is March 1, 2017; and the minister's decision is due by March 9, 2017.

ENVIRONMENTAL PREVIEW REPORT GUIDELINES ISSUED:

Embree Residential Subdivision Project (Reg. 1858)
Proponent: David Nippard

The minister has approved the final guidelines for the preparation of the environmental preview report (EPR) for the Embree Residential Subdivision Project. The EPR guidelines identify the information that the proponent will be required to include in the EPR.
