The Child and Youth Advocate Announces Two Investigations and One Systemic Review

The Office of the Child and Youth Advocate has recently called two investigations and one review pursuant to Section 15 of the Child and Youth Advocate Act. Formal notification to the applicable government departments and agencies has been provided.

The investigations involve the following:

  • The Department of Children, Seniors and Social Development’s management of contract compliance for contracted residential services;
  • The Newfoundland and Labrador English School District’s actions related to teacher conduct and student safety.

A review is also underway to identify current practices related to any recovery or clawback of child support payments from Income Support amounts. The primary focus of this review is the Department of Advanced Education, Skills and Labour.

Due to the sensitive nature of these investigations, and in order to maintain investigative integrity, no further information will be provided at this time.
