Provincial Government Supports Community Healthy Living Projects

Through an investment of $1.79 million in the Community Healthy Living Fund, the Provincial Government continues to support municipalities and community-based organizations to encourage physical activity, recreation, healthy living and wellness programs throughout Newfoundland and Labrador.

Over the last year, 285 community-based organizations were supported.  This includes initiatives in all regions of the province such as a community garden for the Community Association of Virginia Park; therapeutic horseback riding in Gander for the Community Action Group for Adults with Developmental Disabilities; a physical activity program for the Humber Valley Seniors Citizens Club; and a summer recreation program for the Town of Happy Valley-Goose Bay.

Applications for funding may be submitted year-round, however the requested amounts and the number of applications vary from year to year. The program is application-based and funding is based on applications meeting program priorities and eligibility criteria.

Quote
“Our government is committed to helping residents enjoy healthier, more active lifestyles.  A key part of achieving this goal is working with municipalities and community-based organizations.   We look forward to continuing this collaborative relationship through Budget 2017 investments.”
Honourable Sherry Gambin-Walsh,
