The Honourable Sherry Gambin-Walsh, Minister of Children, Seniors and Social Development, will bring greetings at the official unveiling of the Newfoundland and Labrador Sports Centre (NLSC) expansion project tomorrow (Tuesday, April 11). The event will take place at the Newfoundland and Labrador Sports Centre, 100 Crosbie Road, at 10:00 a.m.

The expansion consists of a 70’ x 70’ space addition, called Benvon’s Room, which is located on the north end of the existing PowerPlex. Benvon’s Room will support the Active Start Program and other sport and recreation based user groups. A 3,500 square foot expansion to the Dr. Noel Browne High Performance Centre was also a component of the project.  

In 2008, the NLSC opened as a provincial training centre that serves as a venue for training provincial level and Canada Games athletes. The facilities are also used to host provincial, national and international competition for provincial sports organizations.
