Provincial Government Celebrates Small Business Week

The Provincial Government is celebrating Small Business Week across Newfoundland and Labrador from October 15 to 21.

During the week, the Honourable Christopher Mitchelmore, Minister of Tourism, Culture, Industry and Innovation, and Mark Browne, Parliamentary Secretary for Tourism, Culture, Industry and Innovation, will visit several small businesses to highlight the sector’s significance to the growth of the provincial economy. In Newfoundland and Labrador, small to medium-sized businesses employ almost 40 per cent of the workforce.

The Department of Tourism, Culture, Industry, Innovation provides a wide array of services and financial support to small and medium-sized businesses, including counselling, repayable and non-repayable financing options, enterprise promotion, and export development and trade.

To encourage further growth potential, the Cabinet Committee on Jobs has engaged several industries in joint decision making aimed at stimulating new business activity and creating new private sector jobs for residents across the province.

In addition, as guided by The Way Forward, the Provincial Government will soon release the Business Innovation Agenda as part of its commitment to re-setting the provincial innovation agenda. The development of this strategy is to expand the pool and capacity of Newfoundland and Labrador’s economic wealth generators, innovation and growth-focused businesses.
