Minister Wishes Jewish Newfoundlanders and Labradorians a Happy Hanukkah

The Honourable Al Hawkins, Minister of Advanced Education, Skills and Labour, wishes all Jewish Newfoundlanders and Labradorians a happy Hanukkah.

Hanukkah is an eight-day celebration also known as the Festival of Lights, or Feast of Dedication, and includes the lighting of candles on the menorah. The festival is a time for families to enjoy each other’s company, play games, share festive treats, and exchange gifts.

This year, Hanukkah begins this evening (Tuesday, December 12) and ends on the evening of Wednesday, December 20.

The Provincial Government’s efforts to publicly recognize diverse cultural holidays and events began with a commitment made in The Way Forward on Immigration in Newfoundland and Labrador, and are intended to increase awareness of diversity in this province, and help newcomers feel welcome in their communities.

Quote
“Hanukkah is a celebration of the resolve and devotion of the Jewish people. With great pleasure, I wish all Jewish Newfoundlanders and Labradorians a happy Hanukkah. May you be blessed with the gifts of hope, happiness, love and health. Chag Hanukkah Sameach!”
