Minister Recognizes Bicentenary of Baha’i Faith Founder’s Birth

The Honourable Al Hawkins, Minister of Advanced Education, Skills and Labour, wishes all Baha’i Newfoundlanders and Labradorians a happy bicentenary of Baha’u’llah’s birth.

Born two centuries ago in Tehran, Iran, Baha’u’llah founded the Baha’i faith, which has grown to include millions of people throughout the world, including Newfoundland and Labrador.

The Baha’i faith teaches unity as its central theme. Baha’is believe in the equality of all people, especially between men and women, regardless of their background. They also believe different religions should be respected as they share a common purpose in creating a permanent and universal peace.

The Baha’i community of St. John’s will hold a bicentenary celebration at The Rooms, beginning at 7 p.m. on Saturday, October 21. The event will feature stories, devotions, music, and refreshments and all people are welcome to join.

In The Way Forward on Immigration in Newfoundland and Labrador, the Provincial Government committed to publicly acknowledge cultural holidays and events. Recognizing these celebrations increases awareness of diversity in this province and helps newcomers feel welcome in their communities.

Quotes
“Baha’u’llah celebrated many of the same values our multicultural province shares - equality for all, no matter their background. I wish Baha’i Newfoundlanders and Labradorians a wonderful bicentenary.”
