Provincial Government Calls for Proposals to Enhance Immigrant Settlement and Integration
The Honourable Allan Hawkins, Minister of Advanced Education, Skills and Labour, today issued a call for proposals aimed at increasing and enhancing immigrant settlement and integration services throughout the province.
Priority will be given to innovative proposals that deliver settlement supports and/or expand English-as-a-Second-Language access for immigrants in various regions of the province. Comprehensive eligibility requirements are available online.
Applications may be submitted by email to immigration@gov.nl.ca. Applications must be received before the close of business on September 25, 2017.
The Way Forward on Immigration in Newfoundland and Labrador, launched in March 2017, emphasizes a focus on providing support to third parties to deliver settlement services and supports to newcomers, and on partnerships with service providers to expand English-as-a-Second-Language access for immigrants to Newfoundland and Labrador, to support immigrant retention. Budget 2017 allocated $400,000 for settlement and integration. The goal is to increase immigration so that Newfoundland and Labrador will welcome approximately 1,700 immigrants annually by 2022.
