Provincial Government Awards Tender Associated with CNA Heavy Equipment Centre of Excellence

The Provincial Government has awarded a tender associated with the Heavy Equipment Centre of Excellence at the Bay St. George Campus of College of the North Atlantic.

The successful $1.31 million (excluding HST) bid from Brook Construction Inc. of Corner Brook is for improvements to the heavy equipment maintenance garage.

In September 2016, the Provincial Government announced $9.25 million in funding for the Heavy Equipment Centre of Excellence, with the Federal Government providing a matching contribution through the Post-Secondary Institutions Strategic Investment Fund.

The $18.5 million investment will provide students and faculty with a leading edge facility to support increased enrollment, partnerships with industry, and research. The Heavy Equipment Centre of Excellence will include a new classroom and shop building as well significant improvements to the large maintenance garage, carpentry shop, and associated site infrastructure.

In The Way Forward: A Vision for Sustainability and Growth in Newfoundland and Labrador, the Provincial Government committed to modernizing the College of the North Atlantic, enhancing the ability of its campuses to serve as local and regional economic generators and community hubs.
