Provincial Government Issues Public Tender for CNA Heavy Equipment Centre of Excellence

The Provincial Government has issued a public tender associated with the Heavy Equipment Centre of Excellence at the Bay St. George Campus of College of the North Atlantic. The tender is for rough grading, foundation and structural steel work. In September 2016, the Provincial Government announced $9.25 million in funding for the Heavy Equipment Centre of Excellence, with the Federal Government providing a matching contribution through the Post-Secondary Institutions Strategic Investment Fund.

The $18.5 million investment will provide students and faculty with a leading edge facility to support increased enrollment, partnerships with industry, and research.

Once complete, the Heavy Equipment Centre of Excellence will include a classroom building for the Heavy Equipment Operator, Commercial Driver, and Mobile Crane Operator programs as well as a large maintenance garage, carpentry shop, and mobile crane field site with associated infrastructure.

In The Way Forward: A Vision for Sustainability and Growth in Newfoundland and Labrador, the Provincial Government committed to modernizing the College of the North Atlantic, enhancing the ability of its campuses to serve as local and regional economic generators and community hubs.
