Public Advisory: Update on Air and Ferry Services for Fogo Island and Change Islands
The Department of Transportation and Works advises that helicopter service for Change Islands began today at 1:00 p.m. (Wednesday, February 10). This is in addition to the fixed wing air service for Fogo Island which got underway at 12:00 noon today. Details regarding schedules and booking information are provided below for both the helicopter and fixed wing air service.
The MV Capt. Earl W. Winsor must undergo an inspection and verification before returning to service. Ferry users will see the vessel being moved from Fogo Island to Farewell to allow for the inspection to be completed. This trip is solely for the purposes of the inspection and passenger and vehicle travel is prohibited. It is anticipated the vessel could be ready to return to service the afternoon of Thursday, February 11, if it passes the inspection.
Helicopter service will operate on an as-needed basis beginning at 1:00 p.m. with a departure from Gander and proceeding to Farewell continuing until 4:00 p.m. Individuals requiring service should contact the Farewell Wharfinger at 709-241-4481. Passengers will be charged the standard walk-on passenger fare for both fixed wing and helicopter services.
