Public Advisory: Temporary Air Services in Effect for Fogo Island and Change Islands

The Department of Transportation and Works advises that contingency air services are in place while repairs are carried out to the MV Veteran following a small fire on board the vessel yesterday evening. The MV Veteran services Fogo Island and Change Islands. It is expected that the vessel will return to service on Friday, January 22.

Both a fixed wing (airplane) and helicopter air service will be implemented beginning this afternoon weather permitting.

Helicopter Air Service
Beginning immediately helicopter service will commence on a load and go, first come, first served basis from Farewell with the following rotation:

  • Farewell to Fogo Island to Farewell
  • Farewell to Change Islands to Farewell
  • Farewell to Change Islands to Fogo Island
  • Fogo Island to Change Islands
  • Change Islands to Farewell

This service will run continuously between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. daily.

The helicopter will land on the north side of Fogo Island.

Reservations are not required.

Fixed Wing (Airplane) Service
Fixed wing service between Fogo Island and Gander will commence mid-afternoon today (Wednesday, January 20). Flights from Fogo Island will depart from the Fogo Island airstrip, and flights from Gander will originate from the Gander International Airport.

Air Labrador has been contracted to provide the service.

The Air Labrador aircraft is capable of carrying 19 passengers per trip. Travellers should contact Air Labrador to make a reservation by calling 1-800-563-3042.

Passengers will be charged the standard walk-on passenger fare for both fixed wing and helicopter services.
