Highway Traffic Act Charges Laid Against Busing Company and Mechanic

A busing company, an Official Inspection Station and a mechanic have been charged with a total of 100 violations of the Official Inspection Station Regulations under the Highway Traffic Act after an investigation was conducted by the Highway Enforcement Branch of Service NL.

Island Bus Service, located in Portugal Cove-St. Philip's, has been charged with:

  • 22 counts of Display False Vehicle Inspection Certificate contrary to Section 19.6 of the Official Inspection Station Regulations.

Island Bus Service, as operator of the Official Inspection Station, located on Bell Island has been charged with 39 violations:

  • 17 counts of Issue Inspection Certificate without Proper Inspection, contrary to Section 11.1 of the Official Inspection Station Regulations.
  • 22 counts of Issue Inspection Certificate/Sticker at Improper Location contrary to Section 19.2 of the Official Inspection Stations Regulations.

A mechanic has been charged with 39 violations:

  • 17 counts of Fail to Comply with Prescribed Procedures contrary to Section 19.6.b of the Official Inspection Station Regulations.
  • 22 counts of Issue Inspection Certificate/Sticker at Improper Location contrary to Section 19.2 of the Official Inspection Station Regulations.

The first appearance is scheduled for November 30, 2016 at Provincial Court in St. John's.

The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary is reviewing the file to determine if criminal charges are warranted.
