Chief Executive Officer Appointed to Workplace NL
Dennis Hogan has been appointed Chief Executive Officer of Workplace NL effective October 2, 2016. Mr. Hogan’s appointment followed the legislated merit-based appointment process carried out by the Independent Appointments Commission. He replaces Leslie Galway, whose contract with Workplace NL concludes October 1.

Newfoundland and Labrador is the first Canadian province to establish a legislated merit-based appointment process. The Independent Appointments Commission is actively recruiting for a number of positions with agencies, boards and commissions including, Memorial University’s Board of Regents, Canada Newfoundland and Labrador Offshore Petroleum Board, and the Labour Relations Board.

BACKGROUNDER
Biographical Information
Dennis Hogan
Prior to his appointment to WorkplaceNL, Dennis Hogan served in several executive roles with the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador, most recently as Assistant Deputy Minister (Workforce Development and Immigration) and Assistant Deputy Minister, Labour Market Recruitment – Major Projects, Department of Advanced Education, Skills and Labour. Previously, he served as Assistant Secretary to Cabinet (Economic Policy) with the Executive Council, and Assistant Deputy Minister (Innovation, Research and Technology) and Chief Innovation Officer, Department of Innovation, Trade and Rural Development.
Earlier in his career, he was the founding Executive Director of Oceans Advance, Newfoundland and Labrador’s ocean technology cluster initiative. Previously, he was founding CEO of the Newfoundland and Labrador Construction Safety Association, former Employers’ Advisor on Workers’ Compensation with the Newfoundland and Labrador Employers’ Council, and Intake Adjudicator with the Workplace Health, Safety and Compensation Commission.
Mr. Hogan is a member of the Advisory Council, Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science, Memorial University, and the Petroleum Industry Human Resources Committee, and has previously served on the board of directors of the Research and Development Corporation of Newfoundland and Labrador, and the Genesis Centre of Memorial University. He is a former member of the Atlantic Advisory Board, National Science, Engineering and Research Council of Canada, and the Conference Board of Canada’s Leaders’ Panel on Innovation-based Commerce.
He holds a Bachelor of Arts (Economics and Business) from Memorial University and a Master of Business Administration from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) where he was a Sloan Fellow. While attending MIT, he also completed graduate studies at Harvard Business School and the Kennedy School of Government.
