Public Advisory: Labrador Straits Ferry Users Advised of New Dates for Alternate Service Delivery

The Department of Transportation and Works advises Labrador ferry users of an update to the previously announced date for the alternate ferry schedule and temporary air service for January 2016. The MV Apollo will now depart the following week for required maintenance, docking on January 10. This shift in date is due to a change in the availability of the dockyard to perform the work.

From January 10 to approximately January 28, the MV Astron will provide ferry service between Blanc Sablon and St. Barbe for vehicle traffic and a maximum of 12 passengers. This will be supplemented by air service between Blanc Sablon airport and Sandy Cove airport with a shuttle service provided to transport passengers between the ferry terminal and the airport.

Ferry users are again advised that there will be no change to fares. The current MV Apollo passenger and vehicle rates will be charged for air service and ferry service for the MV Astron.

The contingency ferry/air service will support daily traffic volumes, while recognizing the inconvenience of an alternate service. The Department of Transportation and Works apologizes for any inconvenience this alternate service may cause.

For inquiries regarding the temporary schedule, ferry users can contact Labrador Marine Inc. toll free within the province at 1-866-535-2567.
