Public Advisory: Update to Mariners Regarding Closure of Placentia Lift Bridge

The Department of Transportation and Works advises mariners of a change in dates for the planned closure of the Placentia Lift Bridge.

The channel at the Placentia Lift Bridge is now scheduled to be closed to navigation by marine vessels which require the bridge to be lifted, for a period of four weeks starting November 18 at 7:00 a.m. until December 16 at 7:00 p.m. During the three-day period at the start of the closure, the channel will be closed to ALL marine vessels. After the first three days, vessel movements will be limited to only those vessels that can navigate without need for the new bridge to lift.

The closure is necessary due to the nature of the work required at this time for the construction of the new bridge.

Vessels that do not require the bridge to lift, and continue to use the channel following the three-day closure, are asked to communicate all movements through the channel to the lift bridge operator to ensure ongoing construction activities can be controlled to safely facilitate vessel movement.

The Department of Transportation and Works appreciates that this closure may pose an inconvenience for some mariners and is asking for their cooperation and patience. Vehicle traffic will not be impacted during the closure.

Further updates will be provided as required.
