Provincial Government Issues Request for Proposals for Cost-effective Information Communication Technology Services

A Request for Proposals (RFP) has been issued to identify efficiencies and greater cost-effectiveness for Information Communication Technology (ICT) services within government and public sector entities such as phone lines, cell phone services, Internet access and data networks.

“The Government of Newfoundland and Labrador is a large user of Information Communication Technology services and a significant driver of this sector in the province. We recognize that by strategically restructuring how we procure ICT service there may be other opportunities for greater cost savings and technological advancement.”
- The Honourable David Brazil, Minister of Transportation and Works

Currently, ICT services are procured separately through individual tenders. The purpose of the RFP will be to review current ICT and related contracts within the Provincial Government, engage other public sector entities to determine their use of ICT services, and assess how efficiencies can be gained through bundling of services.

“Our world has become more and more interconnected and it is increasingly important that government responds to the need to support these technologies. A well-defined telecommunications strategy will ensure we have a solid platform to support our investments in information technology that will enable the business of government and help us improve services to citizens.”
- The Honourable Ross Wiseman, Minister of Finance and Minister Responsible for the Office of Chief Information Officer

The Provincial Government continues to ensure the long-term sustainability of programs and services through prudent cost management.
