Strengthening Road Infrastructure

Roads in Port Au Port Region to Receive Upgrades

Roadwork valued at over $1.7 million throughout various regions of the province's west coast, including the Port au Port Peninsula, will be completed by Mike Kelly & Sons Ltd. The work for the Port au Port region, including paving, asphalt levelling and guiderail repairs is anticipated to be completed this construction season.

The following work is included in this project:

  • Resurfacing for approximately 80 metres at the intersection of Route 460 and Route 463;
  • Level and resurface for approximately 20 metres in the Town of Piccadilly, Route 460;
  • Resurfacing for approximately 2.8 kilometres in the Town of Mainland, from Cemetery Road towards Cape St. George;
  • Resurfacing for approximately 300 metres and ditching in the community of Du Grau;
  • Guiderail removal and replacement at various areas between Mainland and Cape St. George;
  • Level and resurface for approximately 60 metres at Red Brook;
  • Resurface for approximately 200 metres in the community of Marches Point;
  • Resurface for approximately 300 metres and guiderail replacement in the community of Sheaves Cove;
  • Upgrade and pave Roses Road and Jesso's Road in the community of Sheaves Cove; and
  • Guiderail removal and replacement in the community of Campbell's Creek.

Budget 2015 allocated $317.9 million in priority infrastructure projects, including $204 million for provincial roads, bridges and other road work. High quality transportation infrastructure is integral to the social and economic growth of Newfoundland and Labrador, which are key elements of the recently launched Population Growth Strategy.
