Improving Road Infrastructure for Communities and Families

Road Work Gets Underway in the Baie Verte-Springdale Area

Road upgrades, paving and asphalt leveling will be carried out in the Baie Verte-Springdale area through two contracts awarded to J-1 Contracting Limited and Mike Kelly & Sons Ltd. at a total value of just over $700,000. The contracts were awarded last month and work will be completed by the end of the current construction season.

"The work to be completed in the Baie Verte-Springdale area is one of many projects identified for this construction season under the Provincial Roads Program. We have increased funding for the program this year by $6 million, which will result in additional road work being completed and will help ensure improved road infrastructure in all areas across the province."
- The Honourable David Brazil, Minister of Transportation and Works

The contract with J-1 Contracting Limited calls for upgrades and paving of 1.5 km of Route 414-16, Shoe Cove Road. The contract with Mike Kelly & Sons Ltd. calls for asphalt leveling of 1.6 km of Route 392, Beachside Road.

"I am delighted that the Provincial Government is continuing to invest in rural Newfoundland and Labrador with road upgrades and pavement. This is a high priority and I am sure these investments will improve the safety and quality of life for area residents."
- Kevin Pollard, MHA for Baie Verte-Springdale

Budget 2015 allocates $317.9 million in priority infrastructure projects, including $204 million for provincial roads, bridges and other road work. High quality transportation infrastructure is integral to the social and economic growth of Newfoundland and Labrador, which are key elements of the recently launched Population Growth Strategy.
