Provincial Government Awards Contract for Road Upgrades for Communities in the Grand Bank Region

The Provincial Government has awarded a contract for a number of upgrades to provincial roads in the Grand Bank region. The contract which was recently awarded to Nortech Construction Co Ltd. of St. John’s is valued at over $1.7 million. The work is scheduled to be completed this construction season.

This investment of over $1.7 million is the latest step in our government’s ongoing work to renew and revitalize provincial roads throughout Newfoundland and Labrador. The following roadwork will be completed:

  • Rehabilitation work on Route 220-16 through Lawn;
  • Pulverizing and paving on Route 210 near Grand Beach;
  • Asphalt levelling on Route 220 from Little St. Lawrence towards St. Lawrence;
  • Asphalt levelling at Calmer towards Lamaline;
  • Asphalt levelling on Route 220-18 at Point au Gaul;
  • Asphalt repairs on Route 220 between Lawn and Lord’s Cove; and
  • Culvert replacements and bridge approach repairs at various locations on the Burin Peninsula.

Budget 2015 allocates $317.9 million in priority infrastructure projects, including $204 million for provincial roads, bridges and other road work. High quality transportation infrastructure is integral to the social and economic growth of Newfoundland and Labrador, which are key elements of the recently launched Population Growth Strategy.

QUICK FACTS:

  • A tender has been awarded to Nortech Construction Co Ltd. for over $1.7 million for roadwork in the District of Grand Bank.
  • The contract includes work on Route 220-16 through Lawn, Route 210 near Grand Beach, Route 220 from Little St. Lawrence toward St. Lawrence, Route 220-18 at Point au Gaul and Route 220 between Lawn and Lord’s Cove.
  • Over the past three years, more than $400 million has helped maintain, upgrade and enhance hundreds of kilometres of roads, as well as replace 23 bridges and repair 40 other bridges.
