Glovertown Bridge Naming Honours Andrew Sheppard

In the summer of 2012, the Town of Glovertown lost one of its young residents to a kayaking accident on the Terra Nova River. Andrew Sheppard was 22 at the time of the accident. He was well-known in his community, serving as a member of the Glovertown Fire and Rescue Department and as a cadet with the Royal Canadian Legion. Today, in honour of Andrew and his contributions to the community, the bridge over the Terra Nova River in Glovertown was named the Andrew Sheppard Memorial Bridge.

“Andrew Sheppard was certainly an outstanding young man who played an active role in his community and was well-respected by his peers, and the leaders and residents of Glovertown – an example of the many young people across our province who contribute in so many ways to their communities. At the request of the town council of Glovertown, the bridge crossing the Terra Nova River along Main Street South will now be named the Andrew Sheppard Memorial Bridge.”
- The Honourable David Brazil, Minister of Transportation and Works

Town officials from Glovertown, as well as residents and friends and family of Andrew Sheppard, gathered to unveil the name of the bridge. Minister Brazil was also joined by the Honourable Sandy Collins, Minister of Child, Youth and Family Services and MHA for Terra Nova.

“I am humbled to have the opportunity to participate in today's event. Andrew will never be forgotten by his friends and family. As a result of officially designating this bridge in Andrew's memory, his legacy will live on for generations.”
- The Honourable Sandy Collins, Minister of Child, Youth and Family Services and MHA for Terra Nova
