Statement from Minister of Transportation and Works on OHS Charges

The Honourable David Brazil, Minister of Transportation and Works, provided the following statement today in relation to charges laid against the Department of Transportation and Works under the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations. The charges stem from a motor vehicle collision on July 23, 2013, which resulted in the death of a Transportation and Works employee.

"I want to express my condolences to Wayne Wall's family. This traffic incident has had a profound impact on them and on the staff and crews of the Department of Transportation and Works who knew and worked with Mr. Wall. Our goal is to avoid or minimize the threat of a workplace accident and department staff and crews on the province's highways play an important role in achieving this goal. I want to acknowledge and thank them for their work and the contributions they make daily to helping ensure a safe transportation network."

The Department of Transportation and Works will respect the legal process that will take place as a result of the charges and will allow that process to unfold.
