Government Updates Fines for Parking Violations at Provincial Buildings

Amendments introduced today to the Works, Services and Transportation Act propose increased fines for parking violations on Provincial Government parking lots. Current $10 parking violations will increase to $25, while the current $20 violations will increase to $50.

“There have been no changes to penalties for parking violations over the past 20 years at Provincial Government buildings, and the current fines are less than those imposed by some municipalities. The increases we are proposing today are intended to deter motorists from parking illegally and apply only to the fines associated with parking violations at Provincial Government buildings”.
- The Honourable David Brazil, Minister of Transportation and Works

Proposed amendments to parking fines on a Provincial Government parking lot are:

  • Fines for general parking violations such as expired meters or parking in a permitted spot without a permit will increase from $10 to $25.
  • Fines for parking in a fire lane will increase from $20 to $50.

The change in fines will come into effect on September 1, 2015.
