Infrastructure Improvements Enhance Economic Development

Tender is Called for Upgrades to Rencontre East Ferry Terminal

The Department of Transportation and Works has called the tender for upgrades to the ferry terminal wharf at Rencontre East.

"Over the past 10 years, we have invested in modernizing the provincial ferry fleet. Upgrades to ferry terminals, wharves, as well as vessel replacements, refits and maintenance have enhanced supports for rural and remote communities. Both residents and visitors to the south coast of the island will see the benefits of the terminal enhancements at Rencontre East for many years to come."
- The Honourable David Brazil, Minister of Transportation and Works

The tender calls for structural repairs to the ferry terminal wharf, which is central to the Rencontre East, Bay L'Argent and Pool's Cove ferry route and which is currently serviced by the MV Northern Seal.

"We are very pleased with our government's commitment to ensuring that marine infrastructure supports safe and reliable transportation for residents and visitors. This is a very welcome announcementfor residents and businesses that rely exclusively on the ferry to go about their daily lives."
- Tracey Perry, MHA for Fortune Bay - Cape La Hune
