Road Maintenance Enhances Safety for Residents

Dust Suppression Initiatives to Begin for the Season

DustDust suppression work on some of the province’s gravel roads will get underway over the next few weeks with the awarding of a tender valued at over $743,000 to Sel Warwick Inc.

“Gravel roads make up approximately 17.5 per cent of the 10,000 kilometres of provincial roads and by investing in the dust suppression program, we ensure that our provincial roads are maintained and remain safe for motorists. Dust suppression not only increases visibility in general, it is one of the key strategies along with brush cutting and herbicide treatments that the Department of Transportation and Works uses to help reduce moose vehicle collisions in the province.”
- The Honourable David Brazil, Minister of Transportation and Works

This year, calcium chloride will be applied to over 196 kilometres of gravel roads across the province. The work will begin in three weeks and is expected to conclude within eight weeks. Dust suppression initiatives are designed to keep dust close to the road, enhancing visibility for motorists.

Approximately $70.3 million will be invested this year in the Provincial Roads Program, which includes a number of multi-year projects, along with brush clearing and the dust suppression program.
