Delivering Safer and Cleaner Roadways

Date Set for Outer Ring Road Clean-Up

Department of Transportation and Works crews will begin cleaning litter and removing large discarded items from the Outer Ring Road on Sunday, June 14, approximately two weeks earlier than last year. A second closure and clean-up of the highway will be scheduled for July.

"We invest significantly every year to ensure that garbage is removed from key roads around the province so that tourists and residents can experience safe and enjoyable driving conditions. This year, we are starting about two weeks earlier to remove garbage from the Outer Ring Road. Items that are tossed or fall from vehicles onto the road can be safety hazards for motorists and also for the highway crews who must collect them. Everyone should be mindful to dispose of their garbage and old household items in an appropriate manner, as we all share a responsibility to protect our environment and also to be mindful of the safety of crews and fellow motorists."
- The Honourable David Brazil, Minister of Transportation and Works
