Supporting Development of the Public Works Sector

Proclamation Recognizes National Public Works Week

In recognition of National Public Works Week (May 17 to 23), the Honourable David Brazil, Minister of Transportation and Works, was joined by Ron Fleming, President of the Canadian Public Works Association, Newfoundland and Labrador Chapter, for the signing of a proclamation acknowledging the efforts of the women and men in the province�s public works sector and the essential services they provide.

�Through the Provincial Government�s unwavering support of public works infrastructure, facilities and services, Newfoundland and Labrador has continued to prosper and grow. As a government, we have tremendous respect for the employees of our public service and those working in the field of public works, and we thank them for their contributions and the services they provide to residents of the province every day.�

This year�s National Public Works Week theme is, Community Begins Here. The theme highlights the essential contributions of those in the public works sector to the maintenance of services and infrastructure used which strengthen communities throughout the province.

�I commend all the men and women who work endlessly to maintain a high quality of life for the people of their communities and ensure that everything from safe streets and drinking water as well as every other aspect of public works are conveniently available to residents. Budget 2015 allocates over $660 million for the construction and maintenance of health care facilities, long-term care homes, schools, roads and municipal infrastructure projects that support the public works sector. These activities are expected to generate 4,168 person years of employment
