Strengthening Regional Road Infrastructure

Significant Road Work Happening from Salmonier Line to Whitbourne
A tender is being called for major road upgrades to Route 1 (TCH) from Salmonier Line to Whitbourne, through funding of almost $16 million announced in Budget 2015. The project, as well as planned work from Gambo to Benton, is cost-shard with the Federal Government.
“Salmonier Line to Whitbourne is one of the most heavily travelled sections of the Trans Canada Highway in our province, and a priority area identified for our budget this year. Through this tender, which will also include various sections of Veterans Memorial Highway, areas will be recapped or repaved and work will be undertaken on several culverts. This tender is part of over $317 million allocated this year for priority infrastructure projects across the province.”
- The Honourable David Brazil, Minister of Transportation and Works
The tender includes the following work:
- Cold plane and repave various sections from Salmonier Line to Whitbourne;
- Recap between Salmonier Line and Avondale Access Road;
- Cold plane and repave various sections of Veteran’s Memorial Highway;
- Removal and disposal of old asphalt and repaving ramps at Avondale Access Interchange and Brigus Junction Interchange; and
- Culvert rehabilitation and installation at various locations.
“Enhancing road infrastructure is an investment in the region and in the safety of the people who travel our highways every day. It is clear that our government continues to make road upgrades and repairs a priority and I look forward to seeing the completion of this tender.”
- Tom Hedderson, MHA for Harbour Main
