Tender Issued for Construction of New School in Portugal Cove-St. Philip’s

The Provincial Government has issued a tender for the construction of a new school for Grades 5-9 in the Town of Portugal Cove-St. Philip’s. The school will house an anticipated population of approximately 500 students upon opening and is designed to allow for expansion to accommodate 700 students if necessary.

The new school will be located near the town hall on Thorburn Road and will be a two-story building with 31 classrooms. Specialty spaces in the new school will include a gymnasium, commercial kitchen, library/resource centre, home economics room, science labs, technology and fabrication lab suite, two music rooms, art room and a computer room.

Since 2004, the Provincial Government has invested close to $7 billion in much needed infrastructure. This has included investments in transportation, new schools, and new health care facilities including hospitals, long-term care facilities and treatment centres in rural and urban areas of the province.
