Media Advisory: Minister to Help Launch Coalition Marketing Project

The Honourable Clyde Jackman, Minister of Seniors, Wellness and Social Development and Minister Responsible for the Status of Persons with Disabilities, will join the Coalition of Persons with Disabilities (the Coalition) to launch a new marketing and media inclusion project tomorrow (Thursday, October 22). The event is taking place at Royal Newfoundland Constabulary headquarters media room, 1 Fort Townshend, St. John's, beginning at 10:00 a.m.

The Provincial Government has provided $50,000 to the Coalition for the project, entitled Creating a Positive Image of Disability through Media and Marketing. The project is designed to lay the groundwork for a social media campaign which will utilize the marketing and media sectors to help shift public attitudes about disability and inclusion in Newfoundland and Labrador.

The development and implementation of a social media campaign to challenge negative stereotypes around disabilities is among the commitments included in the action plan to guide further implementation of Access. Inclusion. Equality - A Provincial Strategy for the Inclusion of Persons with Disabilities, released in June of this year.
