Local Tennis Player Scores National Under-12 Success

Aiden Drover Mattinen, a 12-year-old student at Beachy Cove Elementary in Portugal Cove-St. Philip's, gave a stellar performance at the Tennis Canada Indoor Under-12 National Championships in Calgary last week (March 29-April 4).

Aiden was among 64 of Canada's best under-12 tennis players at the national tournament. He made it through to the last 16 players in the singles championship, where he lost to Jayden Weeks from Quebec. In the doubles, Aiden and his partner Ghouse Faisal of Alberta reached the final, where they lost to a duo from Ontario.

Alan Mackin, Executive and Technical Director, Tennis Newfoundland and Labrador (TNL), said Aiden continues to improve his game and is now one of the top national prospects in his age group.

"These success stories are very important as they can both inspire and motivate the next generation of players. Tennis continues to flourish in Newfoundland and Labrador, which is a testament to all of the hard work that is being accomplished by community leaders, coaches and the TNL executive."
