Recognizing the Positive Impact of Older Adults

Provincial Government Welcomes Nominees for Seniors of Distinction Awards

Individuals, groups and organizations are encouraged to submit nominations for the 2015 Seniors of Distinction Awards, a program which recognizes and celebrates the contributions, achievements and diversity of seniors throughout Newfoundland and Labrador. The deadline for submission is April 30, 2015.

"The Seniors of Distinction Awards were established as a way to honour our older adults. The awards recognize the important role seniors have in our society and celebrate the valuable contributions they make both in their communities."
- The Honourable Clyde Jackman, Minister of Seniors, Wellness and Social Development

To be eligible, a senior must be nominated by an individual or group, must be 50 years of age or older and be a current or past resident of Newfoundland and Labrador. Nominees will be considered for both voluntary and paid work, and nominations from last year will be reviewed again this year at the request of the nominee. Posthumous awards may also be given.

The Seniors of Distinction Awards Program was launched in 2009 as an initiative of the Provincial Healthy Aging Policy Framework. The framework aims to recognize older persons, celebrate diversity, support communities, encourage health and financial well-being, and support employment, education and research.
