Media Advisory: Minister to Attend F/P/T Meetings and Opening Ceremonies of 2015 Canada Winter Games

The Honourable Clyde Jackman, Minister of Seniors, Wellness and Social Development, will attend meetings of federal, provincial and territorial ministers responsible for sport, physical activity and recreation, February 12-13 in Prince George, B.C., before joining Team Newfoundland and Labrador at the opening ceremonies of the 2015 Canada Winter Games in that city on the evening of February 13.

The meetings of Ministers Responsible for Sport, Physical Activity and Recreation will focus on recent national data on healthy weights; national physical activity targets; the development of a framework for recreation in Canada, and plans to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Canada Games in 2017 � which also corresponds to the 150th anniversary of Confederation.

Minister Jackman will join conference co-chairs, the Honourable Bal Gosal, Minister of State (Sport), Government of Canada, and the Honourable Coralee Oakes, Minister of Community, Sport and Cultural Development in British Columbia, along with other provincial and territorial ministers, for a news conference to be held at 3:30 p.m. PST (8:00 p.m. NST).
