Supporting Exploration for a Sustainable Economy

International Mining Event Focuses on Investment Opportunities

Mining companies from Newfoundland and Labrador are in Vancouver this week with officials from the Provincial Government and Mining Industry NL to promote the province's resource potential. They are attending Mineral Exploration Roundup, the second largest annual mineral exploration conference and trade show in Canada which attracts international, national and local mining industry geoscientists, investors, prospectors and suppliers.

"Events, such as Mineral Exploration Roundup, provide opportunities to showcase Newfoundland and Labrador's immense mineral wealth and diverse geology with the purpose to attract exploration investment into the province. Our participation in this event will help to maintain the long-term viability of the industry and support future economic growth of mining operations in communities throughout Newfoundland and Labrador."
- The Honourable Derrick Dalley, Minister of Natural Resources

Mineral Exploration Roundup has expanded to a larger venue this year and the Provincial Government has partnered with industry on the creation of the Newfoundland and Labrador Pavilion. The booth will be in the conference's main Exhibit Hall and will provide information on current and potential mining developments, recent discoveries, geoscience initiatives and the status of active exploration projects happening in the province. Participation at Mineral Exploration Roundup generates international exposure for local companies and the booth includes two semi-private networking areas for delegates and investors.

Local prospectors in attendance gain the opportunity to build and establish productive business relationships and secure investment for emerging and potential projects.

"Mining Industry NL is pleased to have a strong delegation of members attending Mineral Exploration Roundup. The event provides access to key industry players and affords excellent networking opportunities for our companies to showcase and discuss their comprehensive range of active Newfoundland and Labrador projects."
- Ed Moriarity, Executive Director, Mining Industry NL

The Provincial Government is committed to the long-term responsible management and development of the mining industry. Interest in the mining sector will contribute to continued industry growth and sustainability, despite short-term challenges as a result of low commodity prices. Newfoundland and Labrador is recognized as one of Canada's leaders in iron ore production and there continues to be healthy interest from national and international investors.
