Applications Now Available for $5.7 Million Community Enhancement Employment Program

The Honourable Keith Hutchings, Minister of Municipal and Intergovernmental Affairs, announced today that the Provincial Government is now accepting applications from organizations and communities interested in sponsoring projects funded under the Community Enhancement Employment Program.

The Community Enhancement Employment Program provides significant enhancements to our communities particularly in rural areas of the province. The $5.7 million being invested not only assists residents in qualifying for employment insurance benefits but also provides skills development opportunities for workers.
- The Honourable Keith Hutchings, Minister of Municipal and Intergovernmental Affairs

The Community Enhancement Employment Program provides funding to eligible sponsors which include towns, Inuit Community Governments, regional municipalities, local service districts, community and economic development organizations and other non-profit organizations. Individuals can be employed for up to 400 hours in order to become eligible for employment insurance benefits.

I encourage interested sponsors to apply for this program. Examples of past projects include upgrades to community halls, development of trails, improvements to parks and recreational infrastructure as well as upgrading of tourism attractions. In 2014-15, 237 projects received funding through the Community Enhancement Employment Program, resulting in employment for approximately 1,500 individuals."
