Significant Investments in Infrastructure
$19 Million Invested in Municipal Infrastructure in Mount Pearl
Over $19 million in cost-shared funding for multi-year capital works projects was announced today for the City of Mount Pearl. This funding will support a number of municipal infrastructure projects in the city including street improvements, walking trail upgrades and facility renovations to enhance and modernize services and recreation options for the benefit and well-being of families and businesses in the community.
“Maintaining and upgrading infrastructure throughout the province is important to ensuring quality services. This cost-shared $19 million investment will assist the City of Mount Pearl by enhancing their infrastructure requirements and ensuring their residents continue to have a strong community in which to live, work and do business.”

The announcement, made today by the Honourable Keith Hutchings, Minister of Municipal and Intergovernmental Affairs, together with the Honourable Steve Kent, Deputy Premier, Minister of Health and Community Services and MHA for Mount Pearl North, will support the following projects:
- $12.5 million for street improvements on Topsail Road, Commonwealth Avenue, Municipal Avenue, Sunrise Avenue, Blackmarsh Road, Hann Place, Hounsell Avenue, O’Keefe Avenue and Jeffer’s Place;
- $2.8 million for infrastructure improvements in Donovan’s Industrial Park;
- $950,000 for the re-development of St. David’s Park;
- $880,000 for Reid Centre renovations and upgrades;
- $570,000 for Admiralty House Annex upgrades;
- $440,000 for upgrades to the existing tennis complex.
- $300,000 for the assessment for the reuse of the former pool building;
- $300,000 for emergency power upgrades for facilities;
- $200,000 for a transportation and utilities study; and
- $100,000 for Waterford River walking trail upgrades;

This funding will allow the city to upgrade streets, enhance walking trails and fund projects that make Mount Pearl a city in which its residents can stay active and healthy. The Provincial Government is providing 70 per cent of the funding and the City of Mount Pearl is covering the remaining 30 per cent.

As part of investments through Budget 2014: Shared Prosperity, Fair Society, Balanced Outlook, the Provincial Government has allocated $200 million for a three-year program for municipal infrastructure projects.

- As part of Budget 2014 investments, the Provincial Government has allocated $200 million for a three-year program for municipal infrastructure projects.
- Since 2008, the Provincial Government has approved in excess of $820 million in municipal capital works projects resulting in improvements to drinking water, waste water systems as well as recreational infrastructure.
