Nominations Being Accepted for Inaugural
Newfoundland and Labrador Human Rights Award

The Human Rights Commission of Newfoundland and Labrador would like to advise the public that nominations are now open for the inaugural Newfoundland and Labrador Human Rights Award. This award will recognize an individual who has made and/or continues to make a meaningful contribution to advancing and furthering human rights in the province.

"The Newfoundland and Labrador Human Rights Award is an initiative to highlight the efforts made by individuals who have taken personal initiative to protect and promote human rights in communities throughout the province. These individuals have caused ripples and waves in our communities, always challenging us to do better in an effort to ensure the dignity and rights of all individuals are upheld."
- Remzi Cej, Chair of the Newfoundland and Labrador Human Rights Commission.

The deadline for nominations for the Newfoundland and Labrador Human Rights Award is October 31 and details can be found online at www.thinkhumanrights.ca . The award will be presented at Government House in St. John's at a special ceremony on International Human Rights Day, which falls on December 10.

"Human rights protections are enshrined in our legislation, but they are lived on our streets, in workplaces, and in communities. With the Newfoundland and Labrador Human Rights Award, the commission is providing residents with the opportunity to take the time to shine the spotlight on people who in their lives have made significant efforts and who give selflessly to protect and promote human rights in our province."
- Mr. Cej
