Public Advisory: Emergency Management Plan Exercise Scheduled to Take Place Tomorrow in Portugal Cove-St. Philip’s

Fire and Emergency Services-Newfoundland and Labrador will be assisting the Town of Portugal Cove-St. Philip’s tomorrow (Tuesday, April 14) in the exercising of its emergency management plan. Throughout the morning, numerous emergency management agencies will validate their ability to respond to a wildfire in the community.

The exercise is titled “Smoked Out” and will run from approximately 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. During that time, residents, visitors and the travelling public may notice an increased presence of emergency vehicles and personnel throughout the community, and may see smoke in the area of Rainbow Gully Road.

Members of the media interested in viewing the exercise in person are encouraged to register in advance by contacting Fire and Emergency Services-Newfoundland and Labrador at 709-729-0857.

Kevin Parsons, Parliamentary Secretary to the Honourable Darin King, Minister Responsible for Fire and Emergency Services-Newfoundland and Labrador, will join participants and students at the Portugal Cove-St. Philip’s Recreation Centre, 1119 Thorburn Road at approximately 11:00 a.m. MHA Parsons and Portugal Cove-St. Philip’s Mayor Moses Tucker will also be available at that time to speak to the media about the exercise and seasonal emergency preparedness.
