Supporting Health and Well-Being for Families and Communities

Arrangement Secures Additional Long-Term Care Beds at Chancellor Park

The Provincial Government, through Eastern Health, has entered into a new arrangement with Chancellor Park for the provision of 120 publicly-funded long-term care beds. The agreement marks another important step in ensuring that capacity exists to address the long-term care needs of residents.

"This arrangement represents our government's commitment to pursue innovative solutions to address the growing demand for quality long-term care. Chancellor Park plays a valuable role in supporting the local community and through this arrangement, the facility will continue to ensure the delivery of quality care for residents in Newfoundland and Labrador."
- The Honourable Steve Kent, Deputy Premier and Minister of Health and Community Services

This recent arrangement that is now in effect with Chancellor Park brings the total number of publicly-funded beds to 120, an additional 35 over the previous contract.

"Eastern Health is pleased to partner with the Provincial Government and Chancellor Park in order to respond to the need for long-term care beds in the St. John's area. By working together to open these beds, along with the recent opening of a 28-bed unit at the new St. John's Long-Term Care facility, we are not only enhancing access to long-term care, we are also making strides to improve patient flow throughout the entire health system."
- David Diamond, President and Chief Executive Officer, Eastern Health

To address high demand for long-term care placement in the St. John's region, Chancellor Park has been providing care and accommodations to subsidized residents since 2006. The facility is a high quality service provider and is equipped to accept residents with long term care health needs.

"Chancellor Park is pleased to continue to be partners in the health care system in the province of Newfoundland and Labrador, and is pleased to be able to continue to provide quality service delivery to the seniors of the province and their families."
- Gloria Parsons, Chief Executive Officer, Chancellor Park

Launched in 2012, the Provincial Government's Close to Home: A Strategy for Long-Term Care and Community Support Services was created to strengthen long-term care services throughout the province. In line with this strategy, Budget 2015 includes an investment of approximately $700 million for long-term care and community support services, including home support and personal care homes.
