RFP Released for Planning of Central Medical Dispatch Centre

The Provincial Government has issued a request for proposals (RFP) to obtain a consultant to assist with the design and development of an implementation plan for a Central Medical Dispatch Centre. The dispatch centre was a key recommendation of the Provincial Ambulance Review and will help integrate 911 services, streamline routine and emergency response transports, and improve overall ambulance availability and response times for residents throughout the province.

The release of this request for proposals represents continued efforts to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of our Provincial Road Ambulance Program. The release of the RFP is a key step toward enhanced coordination and planning for a new service that will greatly enhance ambulance services for residents.
- The Honourable Steve Kent, Deputy Premier and Minister of Health and Community Services

Through this competitive selection process, the Provincial Government will identify experienced providers with an interest in developing a design and full implementation plan for the new facility. The request for proposals can be viewed at the Government Purchasing Agencys web page at www.gpa.gov.nl.ca. The deadline for submissions is October 9, 2015.

We recognize that emergency services have a vital role in health care delivery across our province. To respond to growing demand, we have increased investments in the Provincial Road Ambulance Program to more than $50 million annually, up from $14 million in 2002. This request for proposals will help achieve a more effective, efficient emergency response service and patient transfers in our province, which is essential for achieving a more accessible and sustainable health care system for the future.
- Minister Kent

The road ambulance review was completed by the Fitch-Helleur partnership and was released on October 7, 2013. The review provides a comprehensive overview of the current road ambulance system and makes 10 key recommendations to help create a more effective and efficient ambulance program for Newfoundland and Labrador.
